about

Knowing one’s past is the key to understanding your present, so it's said. A clan name is not necessarily a surname and serves a different purpose to that of a surname.

Surnames are passed down from the father’s side of the family while the clan name system is commemorative in nature, with names being shared across a certain clan within the culture. Some consider it important to know your clan names as it “keeps [the memory]of the people who prepared the way for you”. “Ancestors aren’t just dead people" so they say.

Shaka

Sigidi kaSenzangakhona commonly knows as Shaka was a great Zulu king and conqueror. He lived in an area of south-east Africa between the Drakensberg and the Indian Ocean, a region populated by many independent Nguni chiefdoms. During his brief reign more than a hundred chiefdoms were brought together in a Zulu kingdom which survived not only the death of its founder but later military defeat and calculated attempts to break it up.

The figure of Shaka still sparks interest among not only the contemporary Zulu but many worldwide who have encountered the tribe and its history. The current tendency appears to be to lionise him; popular film and other media have certainly contributed to his appeal. Certain aspects of traditional Zulu culture still revere the dead monarch, as the typical praise song below attests. The praise song is one of the most widely used poetic forms in Africa, applying not only to spirits but to men, animals, plants and even towns

Nuhohm

Tshegofatso Mathabathe (stage name nuhohm - pronounced new - om/nu - om) is a Producer/DJ from Mapetla,Soweto.Tshegofatso grew up in a very creative enviroment where his mother was a photograper and father a DJ,this is probably where his love for music and art in general was ignited but unlike both his parents who were both forced to stop chasing their dreams to pursue more "stable" jobs, he aims on make sure that he turns his dreams into a reality as a dedication to them for the sacrifices they made.

Tee-Illa

Tebogo "tee_illa" Mamiane is a beatkmaker from Mamelodi, Pretoria who infuses Soul, Jazz, African and Hip-Hop sounds to consistently create wonderful sounsdcapes for the masses.

Inspired from a young age by artists such as J Dilla, Madlib, Dibiaa$e & Knxwledge, his musical prowess was inspired by the instrumental aspect of the music and finding old rare records to sample and implement into his sound.

I_Will Tunez

Thato Mokoena, better known by his active name "I_Will [Tunes]", is a South African independent music artist. Born in Zone 10 Sebokeng Ext1, currently lives in Powervillpark (Vereeniging). Started his music career in 2015 as a fulltime beatmaker, drawing his inspiration from talented names in the beat scene such as "Mndsgn" "Melodiesinfonie" "AFTA-1" etc. In his music (mainly beats), he fuse multiple genres to form a feel of his own which separates him from the rest, however though, the fundamental of his music is Hip Hop based, and he has released couple of his EP's (digitally) via soundcloud and bandcamp.

Mdbts

Blue Fluff

Blue Fluff real name Siyabonga Dube is a multi-genre music producer from Pietermaritzburg [Kwa-Zulu Natal]. A musical journey tracing all the way back to as early as 2007. The emerging of the Blue Fluff sound began in 2013, after being introduced to electronic music by close friend Willing Listener’s Forum. Having been producing with a different moniker for years as a house producer, Blue Fluff was Siya’s way to try experimenting a bit and arising to a new challenge. Remaining cored to his dreamy & spacey sounds “Spacestrumentals” was the motion & theme of the season. Fluff takes pride in serving the alternative and different music makers, more based on the underground scene. Throughout the years he has done a few solo projects and collaborated highly with a number of artists from the 4PM circle, Willing Listener’s Forum, Orakill, Heatwave Deniro, Johnny Wxlf , Kahela, Other Oddz, Wun-Eye, Ziplock Zee, CeeFUU & El Crizzy to mention a few.
